Step 4 Point your domain name at your Google site

Whilst you do not need any technical skills to point your domain name to your google site you MUST be very careful and patient or you will go in circles, wate time and get frustrated so please follow these instructions.

4.1 From the Google Site builder, in the top right click the drop down next to "Publish" (1) then choose "Publish settings.." (2) Note in this example the site is called www.myclimateaction.com so where you see this or "www.yourdomain.com" in the instructions you will need to replace this with your custom domain see below;

4.2 Now choose "Manage" (3) see below;

Now enter your domain and then click "Verify your ownership" see below;

4.3 Verification method Choose "Crazy Doamins.com" (4) then click "Add a C Name Record" (5) see below;

4.4 Copy the CNAME Label / Hosts and CNAME Destination / Target

4.5 Login to your domain account choose "Domains" then click on your domain. Then scroll down and click the hamburger menu on the right of of the "DNS settings" heading (8) and then choose "Add Record" (9) see below;

4.6 A new row will appear and from the drop down choose "CNAME Record" (10) then click the "Add" button (11) see below;

4.7 Now using the details you created from google sites from 4.4 above (ie CNAME Label / Hosts (6) and CNAME Destination / Target (7)) ONLY ADD the first part of the Host name from 6 into the CNAME Record (12) and enter the full Target into the second box (13). Then click "Update (1) " see below.

4.8 Now you will need to wait from 2 - 24 hours before returning to step 4.4 above (ie if the webpage is still open use that otherwise re follow the steps above) and then press the "Verify" button (14) see below;

4.9 Once you receive a green tick (this may take 24 hrs) return to Google sites replicate step 4.2 above but when you type your domain a new option "Assign" will appear choose that option.

4.10 Now return to Login to your domain account choose "Domains" then click on your domain. Then scroll down and click the hamburger menu on the right of of the "DNS settings" heading (8) and then choose "Add Record" (9) see below;

Add a new CNAME record for www pointing to ghs.googlehosted.com see below;

Now delete any existing A records add A records

Now try out some advanced Google site features while you wait 2-24 hours before checking if your new custom domain name is active.
